Understanding which vehicles will be docking on the bays and understanding the MHE will be used to unload them is key when designing a loading bay or when finding the right building for your product. Getting it wrong can lead to damage or even injury to staff.
This site I recently visited in Lichfield is a prime example of a standard developer specification not being suitable for the client (they have only been using the site for 12 months):-
Issue 1 - Dock shelters too small for the trailers and therefore getting destroyed. If you service vehicles from the EU then there is a high probability that this could happen to you.
Issue 2 - Steep slope into the dock. The customer has deliveries in containers with goods packed up to the back doors. Stock sometimes falls out when doors are opened which could potentially cause a serious injury as well as damaged stock.
Issue 3 - The dock bumpers are too low for the vehicles. As a result the vehicles are riding over the top of them, have knocked several off and as they service the new longer containers they could potentially go straight through the door.
We can assist you with surveys of new buildings through to modernisation/solving issues on existing bays, so why not contact us today (07801 990072 or sales@ameydds.com) to prevent needless costs in the future.
